Flint Hills Resources, Wichita, Kansas, has reportedly acquired an asphalt shingle-recycling facility in Shakopee, Minnesota, previously owned by Recovery Technology Solutions (RTS).

RTS developed a technique for recycling asphalt shingles and reusing the liquid asphalt, mineral aggregates and other materials for the shingle and asphalt pavement industries. According to an article in the Shakopee Valley News, the facility has been closed since January. The facility reportedly has the capability of recycling 70,000 tons of shingles per year.

Flint Hills says it will spend the next few months improving the Shakopee facilities’ technology and manufacturing processes before resuming full-scale operations.
